What is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease?

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (also called Chronic Obstructive Airway Disease and Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease) refers to a group of lung diseases in which the airways which carry air in and out of the lungs are obstructed. The disease typically involves loss of air sac elasticity, lung tissue destruction and airway inflammation. Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis are the most common forms of COPD.
